How I Made Yin & Yang in 48h! - United Game Jam 2020

Hi and thank you for following the development of Yin & Yang! This is a quick update to let you know I have released a devlog going over how  I created this game when it first came out.

Back in June 2020, after 3 months of learning Unity, I had decided to challenge myself by participating in my first ever game jam: the United Game Jam 2020. The result is what you're seeing here: a light-based puzzle game Yin & Yang.

Game Jams are a great way to boost your learning when you're starting off learning game development. It helps you push out a new game fast, keeps you on your toes, and also, forces you to actually release something! My first game jam was a great experience and my entry for the United Game Jam 2020 called Yin & Yang is still one of my best achievements 3 months after. Sometimes, pressure helps in creating better things than you would in a longer period of time, and that's okay! Hope my experience can help you see a bit what to expect from a game jam if you've never done one before, and if you're a gamer: here's a bit more about how Yin & Yang works under the hood!

WHAT NEXT?

After finally getting around to share this game around on reddit and other, I've realised that I might actually have something here that really vibes with some players, so I'm definitely going to be working on this project again! And maybe even... make a commercial release into a full game out of it? There are other projects I would like to release before going back to this one, but it's a possibility for sure, so let me know what you would like to see!

I'll be releasing a QoL update in the next month which will add a settings menu to adjust those pesky audio volumes, but also the long awaited Gamepad support! I've been playing around with it in the editor and the game does feel a lot smoother with a twin-stick scheme. I need to add support to navigate the menu with gamepad and make sure the tutorial text updates on controller detection, but once that's ready, I'll fire it up here for you to have a go!

Once again, thank you all for your support with this game, the reception on reddit has been overwhelming and really unexpected, and I'm really happy one of my projects was received like this!

If you want to get more regular updates on what I'm up to and other projects in the pipeline, check out my twitter @GeoffreyMugford where I am more active!

In the meantime, stay well, and talk soon!
